Comments on: Creating a Widgetized Footer

I dunno if you have been playing around with it yet but it seems like the Beta 1.7 of Headway breaks this. When I tried it, it looked like:

a. Add 3 Widgets was underneath the copyright etc..
b. The footer didn’t show up in the widgets panel of wordpress

I only have the beta running on a test site so it is no biggie – just wanted to give you the heads up in case you haven’t checked out the beta.

I have done this three times over and finally it is working, but… I just get one long widget column. I’m getting some help tonight so hope it will be working by tomorrow. This has been a long process.

Would have helped me if you had put a note about where to put the code in the functions and customs files. I got mine working when I began moving them around.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the great post. Your entire site is an invaluable resource for newbies like me!

I followed your instructions for creating a widgetized footer, and it worked like a charm, until….

I just started utilizing “parent and children” pages, and installed the plugin “Page Links To” so that I could have a page in the navigation bar that does not link to anything, with the sole purpose of having that page serve as a parent (and so that the children show up when the parent page name is moused over in the nav bar). Now, whenever any page on my site is loaded, I get a popup the error message “The page at http://vengaviral.com says: 1″. If I click OK, the page loads. The popup seems to happen right before the copyright portion of the footer loads.

Any idea what this is? Thanks in advance!

Any ideas on how I can decrease the height of this footer now? I’ve tried a few things, like adjusting line height and such, and that makes a small difference, but I can’t get it down very far. Any ideas would be most appreciated. Cheers.

Doesn’t look as though you’re doing anything wrong Jackson – just go into the widgets panel in wordpress and add three widgets to the footer block! best regards, Paul.
